British Business Bank scheme delivers more than £27bn of loans to more than 651,000 SMEs in the UK

Today the government published new statistics highlighting that to date SMEs have benefitted from more than £27 billion in loans and guarantees to help support their immediate cashflow issues during the global pandemic crisis through schemes delivered by the British Business Bank.

This includes 608,000 Bounce Back Loans (BBLS) worth £18.4 billion, 43,000 loans worth over £8 billion through the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), and £820 million through the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS).


  • The applications figure includes approved applications, those applications that are still to be processed, applications that have unfortunately been declined and those applications that may turn out not to be eligible or cases where customers will decide not to proceed

  • Figures show cumulative applications and approvals up to close of business on 24 May 2020

  • These figures include data from British Business Bank accredited lenders up to the close of business on 26 May 2020
